Event Overview

ETHICON UK held its annual National Hernia Symposium on Wednesday 18th March 2009 in Birmingham and was attended by almost 200 surgeons with an interest in hernia repair (up from 145 in 2008). The focus of this meeting was “Operating Effectively within the Tariff- Combining Cost Management & Quality of Care”. This topic was identified as important due to recent changes to the UK tariff system which directly affects the way hernia repair will be reimbursed.

A strong agenda was developed by Tabatha Bennett (UK Professional Education Manager) in collaboration with the British Association of Day Surgery (BADS) with the aim of demonstrating that Day Surgery offered an excellent opportunity to provide excellent patient outcomes within the confines of the new tariff system.

The 2009 National Hernia Symposium, with its relevant and topical agenda, represents a key plank in ETHICON’s approach to the hernia segment which reinforces our position as the UK market leader. 4,758 health care practitioners benefited from ETHICON Professional Education in 2008 and we are well on the way to surpassing that figure in 2009. This was the UK’s 5th Annual National Hernia Symposium.
