ETHICON has supported AfPP (formerly NATN) since their foundation and has built a strong partnership with the organisation. Specific Professional Education support initiatives include:
AfPP/ETHICON UK Perioperative Practitioner of the Year Award
The Perioperative Practitioner of the Year Award was launched in 2005. It is open to all practitioners working in anaesthetics, theatre and recovery. The award recognises and celebrates an individual who has made an outstanding contribution in delivering quality patient care within the perioperative environment in the last 12 months. Colleagues, co-workers and managers can make nominations and applications are judged by the AfPP Board. Winners are announced at the Awards Ceremony at the Annual AfPP Congress in Harrogate.
Past Award Recipients:
- 2006 Winner: Sue Lamont, Procurement & Risk Management Co-ordinator, University of Leicester Hospitals NHS Trust.
- 2007 Winner: Patricia Pearson, Senior Sister, Theatres, Luton and Dunstable Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
- 2008 Winner: Minija Joseph, Clinical Coordinator, Cardiac Theatre, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

The ETHICON Nurse and Practitioner Educational Trust Fund 2010
For over 10 years, The ETHICON Nurse and Practitioner Educational Trust Fund has provided a source of funds to enable individual nurses and practitioners to further their professional development and enhance the standard of expertise in their field. Funding can be used to support a wide range of education, from postgraduate courses to conference attendance. To be eligible for consideration, you will need to be a member of Royal College of Nurses (RCN), Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP) or the Infection Prevention Society (IPS). Deadline for 2010 applications is: 2nd April 2010.

ETHICON Foundation Travel Grants
The ETHICON Foundation Travel Grants are awarded to Fellows/Members of The Royal College of Surgeons. They serve to assist with expenses incurred during travelling overseas to obtain further training or experience that will be of benefit to future clinical practice.
